New Chair and Vice Chair Named as OMA Marks Leadership Transition at Annual General Meeting
At the Ontario Mining Association’s Annual General Meeting on May 13, 2026, members welcomed a new Board Chair and Vice Chair while recognizing the leadership and contributions of outgoing Chair François Demers, Director, Ontario Mines at Vale Base Metals.
Luc Guimond, Chief Operating Officer at Alamos Gold, officially assumed the role of OMA Chair following his tenure as Vice Chair. He will serve a two-year term.
Mr. Guimond brings nearly 35 years of mining industry experience across operations management, project development, mine construction, and corporate leadership in Canada and Australia. Appointed Chief Operating Officer at Alamos Gold in 2022, he previously served as Vice President, Operations.
Prior to that, Mr. Guimond was General Manager of the Young-Davidson mine, where he led the operation from development and construction through the successful completion of the lower mine expansion, contributing to record operating and financial performance in 2021. He joined Northgate Minerals, a predecessor company, in 2006 as Project Manager for the Young-Davidson project and later served as Executive General Manager for the company’s Australian operations.
Earlier in his career, he held progressively senior leadership positions with Noranda, Hemlo Gold, Battle Mountain Gold, and Newmont.
A graduate of the Haileybury School of Mines, Mr. Guimond holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mining Engineering from Queen’s University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario. Over the years, he has also made significant contributions to the OMA through his active leadership and engagement on key industry priorities.
“Ontario’s mining sector has a critical role to play in supporting energy security and economic resilience during a period of growing geopolitical uncertainty,” said Luc Guimond. “Canada’s mineral resources are a strategic advantage, and Ontario mining is part of the solution. I’m honoured to serve as Chair of the OMA and look forward to working with our members to advance a safe, responsible, and competitive industry that benefits communities across the province.”
The Association also welcomed Timothy Hill, Chief Executive Officer of Impala Canada, as the new OMA Vice Chair.
Mr. Hill was appointed CEO of Impala Canada in 2019 and brings nearly two decades of mining industry experience in operations, finance, and business planning. Prior to joining Impala Canada, he held senior leadership roles at North American Palladium and Vale Canada. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant and Certified Management Accountant and holds a Master of Science in Finance from Queen’s University Belfast and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Victoria.
The OMA also recognized and extended its sincere appreciation to outgoing Chair François Demers for his dedicated leadership and steady guidance over the past two years. During his tenure, the OMA advanced several important priorities focused on supporting members and strengthening the industry’s core values, particularly health and safety. This included expanding support for mental health through a new partnership with the Canadian Diamond Drilling Association (CDDA).
Under Mr. Demers’ leadership, the OMA continued to expand the This Is Mine Life initiative in partnership with the Governments of Ontario and Canada. The campaign reached more than 32.5 million people over the past three years, helping to significantly strengthen awareness and positive sentiment toward mining careers among youth in Ontario.
The Board also successfully led the transition to new executive leadership following the retirement of longtime OMA President Chris Hodgson, who served in the role for 20 years, and the appointment of Priya Tandon as the Association’s first female President in its more than 100-year history.
“Frank provided thoughtful and steady leadership during an important time for the Association,” said OMA President Priya Tandon. “On behalf of the Board and our members, I want to thank him for his commitment to the industry and his many contributions to the OMA.”
Ms. Tandon added: “We are fortunate to have strong leadership guiding the OMA at a pivotal time for Ontario mining. I look forward to working with Luc and Tim and the rest of our Board as we continue advancing a responsible, innovative and globally competitive mining sector.”
The OMA also extends its appreciation to Premier Doug Ford and Energy and Mines Minister Stephen Lecce for attending the Annual General Meeting and delivering remarks outlining their vision for Ontario and the important role of the mining sector in the province’s economic future. Their participation highlighted the strong collaboration between government and industry in advancing a competitive, resilient, and opportunity-driven Ontario.
The OMA also acknowledges the generous support of this year’s Annual General Meeting sponsors, whose generosity helped make the event a success.
