On September 10, 2016, the Women in Mining Toronto Branch (WIM) team will walk 25 kilometres in the OneWalk to Conquer Cancer, a fundraising event benefiting the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top five cancer research centres in the world. The 16 inspirational women and two men on the WIM team are in the last stages of raising donations, and well on their way to reaching this year's goal of $125,000, once again making them one of the top corporate teams in the walk (see the current team rankings).
Over the last nine years, WIM Toronto teams have raised an extraordinary $750,000 for this event, which unites a powerful community of cancer survivors and their supporters. The generous donors that have made this possible include numerous sponsors from the mining, resource and related industries. At the time of publication, this year's list includes almost 200 supporters, among them: Agnico Eagle, Barrick Gold, Goldcorp, Kinross, Lundin and Uranium One, as well as law firms, consultants and other corporate sponsors. This year's contributions will position the WIM team within striking distance of reaching $1,000,000 next year.
"The Women in Mining team comes out pushing our hardest to raise a lot of money." said WIM team captain Adrienne Van Halem, "We work hard to fundraise to make this team, the mining industry and Princess Margaret stand out as leaders in our respective fields. We are blown away by the support of the mining industry and are so proud to work with such amazing companies."
