Mining New Opportunities - Video

flamingOntario Mining Association First Nation Video Initiative

The Ontario Mining Association produced a 14-minute video last year titled Mining New Opportunities. The video is intended to help First Nations residents gain a better understanding of the mineral industry and the employment and entrepreneurial opportunities it offers. The film was created by Big Soul, an Aboriginal owned and operated television production house. This video is produced in five languages - Cree, Oji-Cree, Ojibway, English and French.

This video is seen as a way to help promote partnerships with First Nations and to allow for greater participation in the social and economic benefits of responsible mineral development. The OMA and its members along with First Nations people and other stakeholders are working in concert to ensure ongoing Aboriginal participation in Ontario's mining industry.

The video is available in VHS and DVD formats. Accompanying the video is a package of supplementary materials and a "Teacher's Resource and Speaker's Guide." This resource and speaker's guide can be downloaded in PDF format from the Ontario Mining Association's website.

The Ontario Mining Association provided the initial funding, management and development for the project. FedNor and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund are sponsoring partners in this cooperative venture.

The OMA makes the Mining New Opportunities video available for viewing in cross-platform Quicktime format. The Quicktime player is freely available for PC and Mac computers and various operating systems on Apple´s Quicktime page.
