Highly Skilled Workforce

Ontario´s miners are men and women highly skilled in computers, robotics, satellite imaging and other technology. Their skills and productivity help Ontario companies succeed in global markets.

Statistics Canada reports that from 1990 to 1996 employee productivity in mining jumped more than 30 per cent compared to a 13 per cent increase in manufacturing and a 5.5 per cent increase in the business service sector.

Mining contributes more to the economy per employee than any other industry. In mining, the annual value - added per employee is $210,000,nearly double the value - added in manufacturing and at east $60,000 more than in any other major industry. These remarkable achievements reflect mining's strong focus on technology, retraining and employee input - lessons for success in any industry.
